Want a simple beach trip with some history and fun? Oak Island is the right place! Oak Island, a barrier island south of Wilmington, North Carolina, shares Brunswick County with Caswell Beach and rests between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway. Oak Island is a charming seaside town known for its over 60 public access sun-kissed scenic beaches and rich history.
Our visit was highlighted by a trip to the iconic Oak Island Lighthouse followed by a relaxing walk along the boardwalk leading to the beach. The snapshots captured are mementos from our brief visit at the lighthouse on 30th March, 2024.

- Spring (March to May): Comfortable temperatures, fewer crowds, perfect for exploring the island.

- Getting there: Drive in via Oak Island Bridge or fly into Wilmington International Airport (45-minute drive).
- Clothing: Pack breezy clothes like sundresses, shorts, t-shirts, and sandals for exploring Oak Island, along with swimwear, sunscreen, hat and a light jacket for cooler evenings or off-season visits.

- Attraction hours may vary, especially off-season.

- Snap a photo with the iconic Oak Island Lighthouse (130 Caswell Beach Rd, Oak Island, North Carolina, USA.) next to the Coast Guard Station. Limited parking on-site, additional available nearby. Reservations needed to climb. Enjoy the views from the boardwalk (no restrooms).
- Enjoy over 60 public beach accesses for swimming, sunbathing, and beach activities. There are restrooms available at several public beach accesses on Oak Island, however, there are no showers.
- Explore the ramparts and bunkers of Fort Caswell, a Civil War-era fort guarding Oak Island located at 100 Caswell Beach Rd, Oak Island for $5 (day fee).
- Explore the Oak Island Nature Center and learn about the fascinating plants and wildlife.
