The Hanging Rock State Park is located in Danbury, North Carolina encompassing over 7,869 acres. The Park showcases a dramatic landscape sculpted by towering cliffs and unique rock formations, including its namesake Hanging Rock. The park was established in the early 1930s, and now home to over 700 species of mountain plants and a fascinating array of wildlife.

- Best Things to Do
- Hiking: The park offers more than 20 hiking trails, ranging from easy strolls to challenging climbs. The jewel in the crown is the Hanging Rock Trail that takes you through a pleasant forest and leads to a breathtaking overlook with panoramic views of the Sauratown Mountains. Trailhead starts at the back of the main parking lot near the Visitor Center. This well maintained, 3.6 mile round trip (previously a 2.6-mile round trip) trail is considered as a challenging route taking an average of 2 hrs to complete.
- Waterfalls: Explore the park’s five waterfalls, including Hidden Falls and Window Falls, which are accessible via a short hike from the visitor center. For a relaxed hike with cascading beauty, the Lower Cascades Trail meanders through verdant woodlands.
- Water Activities: Enjoy seasonal swimming, paddling, and fishing in the park’s lake.
- Rock Climbing: Challenge yourself on the designated climbing routes at Moore’s Wall (experienced climbers only).
