Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park is located on the southern tip of Key Biscayne, Miami and named after Bill Baggs, a dedicated champion for civil rights and the environment. The park’s most prominent landmark, the Cape Florida Lighthouse, the oldest structure in Miami, built in 1825, has played a pivotal role in maritime navigation, particularly in guiding sailors around the perilous reefs of the Florida Keys. As a designated historic site, the park also offers a rich tapestry of history, including its use as a strategic lookout point during significant periods such as the Seminole Wars.

We only had a couple of hours to explore, but Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park quickly became a highlight of our Miami to Key West adventure! - Consider stopping by for a perfectly relaxing few hours on your Miami to Key West trip.
- Best Time to Visit: December to April. Summer is known for stunning sunsets over Biscayne Bay, however the weather can be hot and humid.
- Nearest Airport: Miami International Airport (MIA).
- The park is a quick 10 mile trip from Miami, located at 1200 Crandon Blvd on Key Biscayne.
- There is a park entrance fee of $8 per vehicle.
- The park is open year round from 9 am until sundown.
- Check the park website for alerts, closures and info about Lighthouse tours.
- Try to visit during weekdays to avoid crowds. It’s wise to arrive early as the park is extremely busy on weekends and holidays. The parking fills up quickly and the park may close temporarily once it reaches capacity.
- Choose light, breathable clothing to stay comfortable in the warm climate, comfortable shoes/flipflops/sandals for hike/beach, beach gear like swimsuits, towels, beach mat, hat, sunscreen and sunglasses.
- Beach chairs, umbrellas, and water sports equipment can be rented at the park.
- Restrooms, showers, and concession stands are available throughout the park. The park has a Lighthouse cafe and a gift shop.
- Keep an eye out for a variety of wildlife, including birds, fish, and reptiles. Be sure to stay on the designated trails and avoid disturbing the wildlife.
- Bring your camera fully charged so that you can capture good memories.
- Pack snacks and plenty of water so that you can spend a day picnicking.
- No campsites are available for traditional tent or RV camping, but boat camping is permitted for $20/night.
