Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park

Crystal clear water laps at the shore, iguanas sunbathe on the warm stones, and Civil War history whispers through the breeze. This is the magic of Key West’s southern tip where you can see surprises and attractions all around. Among them, is the remarkable Fort Zachary Taylor State Park.

Fort Zachary Taylor park is the United States’ southernmost state park, a place where relaxation and history intertwine. This park offers a unique glimpse into Florida’s past while providing a serene backdrop for beachgoers and history enthusiasts alike. Anchored by a Civil War-era fort designated as a National Historic Landmark, the park was constructed in the 1840s and was named in honor of President Zachary Taylor. During the Civil War, the fort played an important role in defending the Florida Keys from Confederate attacks; now the fort is home to the most extensive collection of Civil War armaments.
