Absolutely mesmerizing! Svínafellsjökull Glacier is a place where time seems to pause each ridge, crevasse, and shimmering ice surface tells the story of centuries of slow, relentless movement. Being there around midday in June must have been magical, with the sun illuminating the glacier’s icy blues and casting gentle shadows across the rugged landscape.
The surrounding mountains and the vast expanse of Vatnajökull National Park make it feel both majestic and humbling, a reminder of nature’s immense scale and quiet power. Just a short drive from Route 1, yet it feels like stepping into another world a pristine realm of ice, stone, and stillness.
It’s the kind of spot that lingers in memory, inspiring awe long after you leave.
They are magnificent, especially when you see them in person. We have seen some off the coast of Alaska but haven’t been to Iceland yet.
